Best Short Fiction Film – Uncle Give Me a Cigarette, by Al Masna (awarded by the Jury)

An animated short film patiently crafted in stop motion, yet narrated in a simple and original way by 14 girls aged between 10 and 17 who attended the workshop organized by the Union of Palestinian Women’s Committees. A very special moment that impressed not only Walid Daqqa but all of us as well.

Best Short Documentary – Heavy Metal, by Edward Knowles and Timo Bruun

(awarded by the Jury)

For the sweetness and the intensity of the portraits illustrated by the film, for the determination and the courage with which the protagonists pursue their dreams, despite the harsh challenges that society and life may impose within Palestinian refugee camp. For the strength and the hope of a message that tells a story of steadfastness and emancipation through the experience of these athletes.

Best Feature Documentary Film – In The Shadow of Beirut, by Stephen Gerard Kelly and Garry Keane

The film narrates the dramatic nature of life within the Shatila refugee camp, delicately stepping into the profound intimacy of the lives of some of its inhabitants. Stories of life and survival, accompanied by an efficient use of cinematography, revealing a strong sensitivity and observational skills on the part of the directors.

Audience Award – Reel Rock: Resistance Climbing, by Nick Rosen & Zachary Barr
