The Soil and the Sea unveils violent histories lying beneath the soil, the sea and anonymous places which contain the remains of some of the 17,000 people who disappeared during Lebanon’s Civil War and whose fate is still a mystery after 30 years. However, the creation of a National Commission for the Disappeared in 2020 has injected new hope that these sites will be investigated and that remains will be returned to families.
